About Us. We hope to provide you with information that will aid in your career exploration no matter what part of the journey you are on.
My name is Mary. I currently live in Memphis, Tennessee and work as an office manager at a small warehouse.
How did I end up with a site about careers?
Here's a little background:
In 2000, I was fresh out of college (at age 27) and searching for my first paralegal job. Instead, I ended up in my first law firm job as the receptionist for far less money than I anticipated.
Why?
Because I didn't know how to package my knowledge and experience in a way that proved I could do the job.
I'm sure my first resume was laughable, at best.
Since then, I have studied and used the tips and tools I provide here to find increasingly better jobs in the legal field.
When I got ready to leave that field, I used my knowledge about resumes, cover letters and interviewing to move into an office manager position in a completely unrelated field.
It was a combination of this experience and that of helping friends and family in their job searches that led me to develop Career Tools HQ. The primary focus is to put all of the tools for finding or changing positions in one place, laid out in a logical order. I provide this information, not from the human resources perspective, but from the view of one who's been there, done that. And learned a few lessons along the way.
However, beyond resumes and interview skills, my goal for Career Tools HQ is to bring the latest information on getting the most out of your job.
I look forward to your feedback. Let me know what you think of the site, the information, or anything you feel is worthy of comment.
