Job sites and job placement services are often the first place people look when they want to find a new job. But not all are created equal.
Choose your job search techniques carefully. If you choose to use a job board or visit a placement service, be sure you know exactly what you are getting into.
Career Builder and Monster are the two driving forces in the job board world online. Both sites offer additional options such as the ability to post your resume and even paid resume writing services.
The primary drawback of these boards is that the competition you will face for any given job is intense. Millions of visitors check out the positions listed and apply for those they like best.
If you choose to post your resume online, you face an additional disadvantage. You will receive many, often shady, job offers. The bulk of these, in my experience, are sales jobs. Particularly, for insurance sales.
I'm not knocking insurance sales as a career. However, my posted resume at the time was specifically for paralegal work. Still, I received these offers for a field unrelated to my chosen profession. Be aware of this if you choose to post your resume on one of these sites.
